Stanley Cup takes break for repairs as Panthers championship celebrations continue

  • June 20, 2025

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – It’s been a wild couple days for the Florida Panthers and the Stanley Cup.

After first appearing at the famous Elbo Room, attending a team dinner and being shown off to neighbors under the cover of predawn darkness, the Stanley Cup needed a little work done.

It got dented and cracked during team photos, after the Panthers claimed victory on Tuesday against the Edmonton Oilers at Amerant Bank Arena.

Being the celebrity that it is, the extent and location of the Cup’s nips and tucks are under wraps.

Longtime trophy shop owner Scott Liebman said unlike his replicas, the real Stanley cup is sterling silver.

“It’s kind of like gold and silver, they both are malleable,” said Liebman, who owns Ampros Awards and Trophies in Fort Lauderdale. “They both can be repaired with relative ease.”

The 37-pound iconic trophy has been fine for 133 years, and yes, it’s the same one that’s been kissed, hoisted and used as a giant beer mug, among other shenanigans from years past, and no doubt the future.

Phil Pritchard, the Keeper of the Cup, got back to Local 10 with an update of sorts.

“Just an FYI…the Stanley Cup looks pretty good and is ready for another parade in South Florida,” he said. When you and I are 133 years old like the Stanley Cup is…hoping we look as good as it does.”
