The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly settled on their goaltender for tonight’s Game 6 against the Senators, and the decision is somewhat surprising.
Following a disappointing Game 5 loss in Toronto at the hands of the Ottawa Senators, the Maple Leafs have watched a 3-0 series lead evaporate. Now engaged in a 3-2 series, a win in Game 6 is of the utmost importance for both teams.
With the stakes being as high as they are, the Leafs cannot afford to make any mistakes. That’s why a contingent of the Leafs’ fan base are concerned on Thursday.
During the Leafs’ game day skate, Anthony Stolarz was positioned in the starter’s crease, while Joseph Woll appears slated to ride the pine once again, despite the fact that Stolarz has dropped his last two decisions in Games 4 and 5.
Game 4 was a rough one for Stolarz, there’s no question. However, the loss in Tuesday’s Game 5 was hardly on the veteran netminder, as his team provided him with absolutely no goal support in a 4-0 loss. The team also allowed two empty net-goals.
Stolarz was on an incredible run, winning his final 8 starts of the regular season heading into the playoffs, as well as his first 3 post-season starts. Woll, who had also played well this season, simply didn’t perform as well, which led to Stolarz earning the net. There was some brief talk from head coach Craig Berube that we might see a goalie rotation in the playoffs, but that no longer appears to be the case, as Stolarz will have started all 6 games thus far in Round 1.

Do you think the Leafs should have started Joseph Woll in Game 6?
