Thank you, Florida Panthers, for giving us such a fantastic season and back-to-back Stanley Cups.
Thank you for showing us how a class team performs, as hard-fought battles on the ice still end in handshakes. Everyone in the Panthers’ organization is part of their success — not just the stars. They demonstrated this by passing the championship trophy to their first-year players, giving them the honor of touching the elusive Cup first.
It’s now time for our sports teams to stand up and be a voice for our communities.
FIFA World Cup has set up headquarters in Miami in preparation for the 2026 games. Which countries will be banned? Some exceptions may be made for athletes, but what about their families? Their fans? Will they be welcome here?
Ask the immigrants, students, even citizens who have been rounded up without due process and jailed or deported since Trump took office.
Why are people who work, pay taxes and contribute to our society the bad guys? When you have a 3,000 daily quota, you round up anyone to make your numbers — consequences be damned.
Millions of Americans are saying this is not O.K. It’s time for our sports organizations to take a stand. Will they be on the right side of history?

A despicable ‘Alcatraz’
The so-called “Alligator Alcatraz” would be built on the site of an abandoned airstrip near the border between Miami-Dade and Collier counties.
Where did all these despicable politicians come from?
Trump, DeSantis and now Attorney General James Uthmeier, who wants to put an immigration detention center in the Everglades called “Alligator Alcatraz.”
This nut (appointed by DeSantis, not elected by the voters) wants to imprison people who came here looking for a better life in America.
Officials are going to job sites and taking people away from their families and lives. Congress must create a proper immigration process and allow these good people to stay. Say no to this detention center. Florida doesn’t need to be a part of this nonsense.

Let’s not do Israel’s bidding
At last check, the U.S. gives Israel $3.3 billion annually in military aid, $500 million for missile detection systems and grants for other military armaments.
Since its inception, the U.S. has given Israel $125 billion. What have we received? With the war machine ramping up and the same tired arguments of “weapons of mass destruction,” haven’t we learned our lesson?
For years, Benjamin Netanyahu has said that they are close to constructing a nuclear weapon, but our NSC says otherwise. Trump sides with Netanyahu. We want to know where our mostly-silent Congressional Republicans stand and more so, where Sens. Rick Scott and Ashley Moody stand.
This is a solemn and important moment for security and peace. We stand with and pray for our President, the service members who carried out this mission, and the people affected by this conflict.

If they are on the side of war, a great betrayal has been foisted upon the American people.
Only Congress has power to declare war under the War Powers Act of 1973. Since a weakened Congress has abdicated its power to the executive, we could sadly be dragged into yet another endless war. Doing Israel’s bidding is not in our best interests.

Still a loyal reader, at 93
I would like to compliment you. It’s obvious you read every letter to the editor you receive.
You’ve published my letters seven times. Thank you for feeling that whatever subject I wrote about was worthy of your time to read and then publish.
I’m 93, going on 94. I get the paper every day and head right to the Opinion page to see what the world is thinking and expressing. No doubt you’ll hear from me again at some point. This was merely to express my gratitude for what you do.
