Usually, you don’t associate the Buffalo Sabres with Hall of Fame Hockey, but yesterday it was announced that former Sabres’ star Alexander Mogilny will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame this year.

Alexander Mogilny Headed To Hockey Hall Of Fame

Mogliny was drafted 89th overall in the 1988 NHL draft by the Sabres and played 6 seasons in Buffalo before he was traded to Vancouver.

 

He holds the Sabres record for most goals in a season with 76, which he scored in the 1992-93 season.

He scored a total of 211 goals as a Buffalo Sabre.

Besides Buffalo, Mogilny also played in Vancouver, New Jersey, and Toronto.

He scored 473 career goals, had 559 career assists, and during his career, he is one of a few hockey players to have won a Stanley Cup, an Olympic gold medal, and a World Championship gold medal.

Mogilny Opened Flood Gates For Russian Players In The NHL

Mogilny’s time in the NHL was very impactful due to the fact that he was the first Russian players to make the leap across the pond from Russia to North America. He defected from the Soviet Union in 1989 to play in the NHL.

 

Hockey Hall Of Fame Class In 2025Jack Parke, Daniele Sauvageau, Jennifer Botterill, Zdeno Chara, Brianna Decker, Duncan Keith, and Joe Thornton.

The induction ceremony will take place in Toronto on November 11th.
