To the surprise of everyone, Morgan Rielly isn’t the only Maple Leafs defenseman whose name has appeared in trade rumours ahead of the NHL’s Entry Draft.

Moving on from the longest-tenured player on the Maple Leafs would certainly be changing the DNA as General Manager Brad Treliving suggested that he wants to do, but it would be a highly complicated deal if Rielly was to even consider waiving his no-movement clause.

Seravalli notes, however, that the Leafs would prefer not to move the 28-year-old so soon after acquiring him, but in doing so, it would allow the Leafs to add a substantial addition to the forward group.

That being said, Leafs Nation is in agreement, for the most part, that dealing a 28-year-old, top-4 defenseman for forward help doesn’t make much sense if it just creates another hole on the blueline that the Leafs will have to do patch-work on at the deadline.
