The Toronto Maple Leafs remain interested in re-signing Max Pacioretty, but another suitor has reportedly emerged that can offer Pacioretty something the Leafs simply can’t.
With the NHL season now officially wrapped up, teams have turned their focus to evaluating performance and identifying key offseason targets to improve their rosters.
The importance of veteran presence was on full display in the Stanley Cup Final, where Brad Marchand proved instrumental in the Florida Panthers’ success, highlighting how experienced players can elevate their game in crucial moments.
For the Toronto Maple Leafs, Max Pacioretty served as that steady veteran presence during their postseason run as well. However, the Leafs may face some stiff competition and may not be able to retain him. As per Nick Alberga on X:
“The Leafs remain interested in re-signing Max Pacioretty.
That said, being close to family, who are in Michigan, is a top priority for him.
Leading up to July 1, one team to look out for is the Detroit Red Wings.”

There’s no telling how Pacioretty’s health will hold up moving forward, especially after several seasons with a litany of health issues, so if the Leafs do want to bring Pacioretty back, the deal will have to be a buriable amount. Otherwise, it might make more sense to simply step aside and allow the veteran to ink a deal a little closer to home.
