On the other side of the playoff bracket, the Edmonton Oilers handled their business Thursday night, eliminating the Dallas Stars (for the second straight year) in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals, 6-3.

That sets up a rematch of last year’s final, which the Panthers won in a Game 7 thriller after blowing a 3-0 series lead.

Panthers vs. Oilers will be the first time two teams have faced each other in consecutive Stanley Cup Finals since the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings in 2008 and 2009. The two teams would split those championships.

After the Oilers eliminated the Stars at approximately 11:10 p.m. EDT on Thursday, the Panthers immediately took to social media to send a three-word message to Edmonton ahead of their rematch.

“We meet again,” the Panthers official X account posted.

Despite the Panthers being the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Oilers (as of Friday) are the favorites at -113 to win the series.

Oilers superstar Connor McDavid sits as the favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP at +110. These odds are per FanDuel Sportsbook.

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final is scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 4 at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The game will air on TNT.

The Oilers seek their sixth Stanley Cup championship in franchise history and their first since 1990. The Panthers, meanwhile, will attempt to become the first team to win back-to-back championships since the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021.
