The Downriver region’s top two high school ice hockey teams shared the rink in a summer exhibition Wednesday night as Riverview Gabriel Richard battled Trenton at the Kennedy Rec Center.
It’s already been a busy summer for both teams, who are competing in summer league games elsewhere out at Novi in addition to the annual local league held at Kennedy. Additionally, Wednesday was the penultimate matchup between the two schools before they officially become MIHL foes next winter.
In another heated and intense battle, one that doesn’t count towards any formal standings, the Pioneers from Richard earned the latest bit of bragging rights with a 2-0 victory over the host Trojans.
