Daniels and the Commanders were also dressed for the part. They were wearing red and black Capitals jerseys for the playoff game, most of which featured No. 8 for Alex Ovechkin, who broke Wayne Gretzky’s career goals record earlier this month.
The Capitals ended up running away with the game, scoring two goals in the second period to take a 3-1 win. Washington offensive linemen Sam Cosmi, Nick Allegretti and Tyler Deiter celebrated the victory, which moved the Capitals to 2-0 in the series, by chugging a few beers, but that wasn’t the end of the night. Daniels and his teammates got to meet members of the Capitals team, including Ovechkin himself. Daniels even got a stick signed by the future Hall of Famer.
It was a cool moment for D.C. sports fans, as one of the area’s greatest athletes embraced another who hopes to have as iconic of a career.
