Red Wings’ Steve Yzerman & Todd McLellan end of season presser

Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman & coach Todd McLellan, April 29, 2025 in Detroit.

Welcome to the 2025 NHL Draft results and picks for the first round Friday night, where the draft is being held at L.A. Live’s Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

This year, things will be a little different at the draft, as teams have been given permission to stay home and conduct their drafts from their facilities, so you won’t see general managers like Steve Yzerman and Mathieu Darche, who will make the first pick, on the stage.

There will be 32 picks in Round 1, beginning with the New York Islanders at No. 1 overall just after 7 p.m. ET (ESPN), with each team having three minutes to make a selection or trade. The first round should take just over three hours to complete, with the Detroit Red Wings expected to pick at 13th overall around 8:30 p.m.

Day 2 of the draft with Rounds 2-7 begins at noon on Saturday, with the draft televised on NHL Network and available to stream on ESPN+. NHL free agency begins Tuesday.

Here is the order of every pick Friday from the NHL draft first round.
