News has emerged that the Chicago Blackhawks held discussions with the New York Rangers to see the Rangers acquire the 3rd overall pick in this year’s draft.
According to Scott Wheeler of the Athletic, The Rangers were one of three teams that held talks to move up in the draft as the team is looking to improve its depth and likely look for more youth.
Both organizations looking for major changes this summer
Both the Rangers and the Blackhawks are looking to make major changes and strides as they are in opposite directions in their current builds.
The Blackhawks are looking to add significant star talent to help build around Connor Bedard as he needs players who can keep up with him.
The Hawks are also looking to get out of the basement of the standings and become perennial contenders as their fanbase has endured some dark times.
The Rangers made a choice earlier this week to move their 12th overall pick to the Penguins to keep the 2026 1st round pick as TSN Pierre Lebrun stated it was more valuable to keep for a future trade.
Rangers may still attempt to acquire the pick
Despite moving their 2025 first rounder, Rangers general manager Chris Drury will likely offer players and future picks to Hawks GM Kyle Davidson to try to land that pick.

Both Drury and owner James Dolan have made it clear that they want to shake up the team and make changes which seem to be on the horizon with Chris Kreider the first to move last week to Anaheim.
Rangers fans will need to sit back and wait to see what’s next for the team as the draft is set for June 27th and free agency on July 1st.
