With their second-round pick in the 2025 NHL draft, the Seattle Kraken selected a young defenseman with Dallas-area ties.

The Kraken drafted Frisco’s Blake Fiddler with the 36th overall pick. Fiddler, the son of former Dallas Stars center Vernon Fiddler, recently suited up for the Western Hockey League’s Edmonton Oil Kings.

Seattle traded up to take Blake Fiddler, sending the 38th and 57th picks to Philadelphia to move up to 36th.

Blake Fiddler, 17, notably built up his skills in D-FW, working through the Dallas Stars Elite Hockey Club. The defenseman posted 10 goals and 23 assists last season in Edmonton. He also recently represented Team USA in the U-18 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup tournament.

Blake Fiddler’s father, Vernon, suited up for 877 regular-season games. Vernon played for the Stars for five seasons, announcing his retirement in 2017.
