COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Columbus Blue Jackets concluded the 2025 NHL Draft by selecting four players on the second day.
The Blue Jackets acquired a third-round pick, 76th overall, from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for their 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick. With this selection, they chose Malte Vass, an 18-year-old defenseman from Farjestad BK in the Swedish Hockey League. Vass, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 184 pounds, debuted professionally in the 2024-25 season and has a record of 2-10-12 with 59 penalty minutes in 50 career games in the J20 Nationell league.
In the fifth round, the Blue Jackets selected Owen Griffin, an 18-year-old center from the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League, with the 160th overall pick. Griffin, who is 5-foot-10 and 172 pounds, has accumulated 23-34-57 with 46 penalty minutes in 123 career games over two seasons.
The sixth-round pick, 173rd overall, was used to select Victor Hedin Raftheim, a 17-year-old defenseman from Brynas IF in Sweden’s junior league.
The Blue Jackets traded their two seventh-round selections to the Seattle Kraken for the 198th overall pick, selecting Jeremy Loranger, an 18-year-old center from the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the British Columbia Hockey League. Loranger, 5-foot-9 and 161 pounds, led the league in assists, points, and points-per-game with 40-65-105 in 54 contests during the 2024-25 season.

Jackets sign goalie to extension
The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Zach Sawchenko to a one year, two-way National Hockey League/American Hockey League contract extension through the 2025-26 season.
Sawchenko, 27, has posted a 1-2-1 record with a 3.35 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage in seven career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks in 2020-21.
