“The Washington Capitals express our heartfelt thoughts and send our best wishes to our beloved public address announcer, Wes Johnson, as he faces a significant medical emergency,” according to a statement from the team. “We kindly ask everyone to keep Wes in your thoughts and to respect the family’s privacy as they navigate this challenging time and focus on Wes’ well-being.”

The Virginia-based voice actor, according to his website and social media pages, has been the Washington Capitals’ public arena announcer for 25 years.
His credits go far beyond, however, as the official voice of America’s Most Wanted lending his talents to video game characters in popular franchises like Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Fallout 3 & 4, World of Warcraft, and more.
On the screen, Johnson appeared on The Wire, Space Ghost, Unsolved Mysteries, For Richer or Poorer, and Head of State, among others.
“The voice you know has been temporarily silenced,” a message on the GoFundMe page read. “But the heart that has given so much to so many of us still beats- and needs our help right now.”
As of Monday afternoon, over $54,000 was raised to support Johnson’s family and help with medical expenses. Those looking to donate can click here.
