The New York Islanders secured the first overall pick after winning the draft lottery.The 2025 NHL Draft first round will take place on June 27th at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN.
The Detroit Red Wings aren’t picking as high this year as they have in some recent years, but it’s still higher than many fans would have hoped.
After a disappointing 2024-25 season that saw Detroit miss the playoffs for the ninth year in a row, the Red Wings will hope to strengthen the franchise’s talent base with a strong showing at the 2025 NHL Draft.
The Red Wings currently have one first-round selection at the No. 13 position. They made a selection in the top-10 in each draft between 2017-23.
The New York Islanders are scheduled to go first overall after winning the draft lottery for the first time since 2009. The Islanders won the lottery despite having the 10th-best odds to win.
The Red Wings did not have a path to the No. 1 pick via the draft lottery, but they could have selected as high as No. 2 overall by winning the lottery.
