MANCHESTER, N.H. —

The Boston Bruins kicked off development camp this week, welcoming their newest draft picks and other top prospects.

James Hagens, who recently finished his freshman year at Boston College, attended camp just days after being selected in the NHL draft.

The center had 11 goals and 37 points in 37 games last season and is Boston’s highest draft pick since 2010.

“I’m willing to give everything I possibly have into this team, to this organization, to this fan base,” Hagens said. “I’m just excited to get it going.”

Among those coaching Hagens and the other players was Taylor Wenczkowski, a former University of New Hampshire women’s hockey standout.

The Rochester native played for the Boston Fleet during the Professional Women’s Hockey League’s first season.

Now retired, Wenczkowski is focused on her passion for player development. She just completed her first season as an assistant coach at Princeton.

She said helping coach at the Bruins developmental camp has been special for her family and meaningful in her efforts to support the growth of the women’s game.

“Having a female on the ice — we have another one, Cathy, she’s a skating coach, it’s awesome to have her here this week too. But I think just you know keep growing the game of hockey for the women’s side,” Wenczkowski said.
