The Nashville Predators have signed defenseman Nicolas Hague to a four-year contract after acquiring him via trade with the Vegas Golden Knights.
The trade, which including sending center Colton Sissons and defenseman Jeremy Lauzon to the Golden Knights in exchange for Hague and a conditional 2027 third-round pick, took place late on June 29.
Hague was a pending restricted free agent, but has now signed a four-year, $22 million contract extension, keeping him in Nashville through 2028-29. His annual cap hit will be $5.5 million, which ranks third-highest on the Predators, behind Roman Josi ($9.059 million) and Brady Skjei ($7 million).
Hague, 26, is a 6-foot-6, 245-pound defenseman who scored five goals and seven assists in 68 games with the Golden Knights last season. Since being drafted in the second round by Vegas in 2017, he has 20 goals and 63 assists in 364 career games.
A defense-first defenseman, Hague excels at hitting, blocking shots and disrupting plays in front of the net. He also likely will be used on the penalty kill.
By adding Hague, the Predators get a bit younger on the back end. Hague will join Josi, Skjei, Justin Barron, Jordan Oesterle, Andreas Englund, Adam Wilsby and Nick Blankenburg on the Predators’ defense.
