Sean Kuraly will reunite with the Bruins after spending the last four seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

But he might not be able to wear the number he had during his first five NHL seasons in Boston. Kuraly donned No. 52, which now belongs to Andrew Peeke.

“I think he owes me something for wearing it last year,” Kuraly joked on Wednesday. “We chatted.”

Peeke and Kuraly were teammates in Columbus for parts of three seasons before the former was traded to the Bruins for Jakub Zboril and a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.

It’s unclear whether Peeke will hand over No. 52 to Kuraly.

Kuraly signed a two-year deal with a $1.85 million annual cap hit on the first day off free agency. The forward departed the organization after the 2020-21 season. He was part of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final team that ultimately fell to the St. Louis Blues.

The Bruins look a bit different from the last time Kuraly played for Boston with only David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy remaining on the roster.

“It seems like a fun challenge to do all we can to start a new chapter of this,” Kuraly said. “It feels kind of cool to be coming back with that opportunity and with a group that seems to have a lot of potential and a lot of good players that have been around.”
