ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals have signed Milton Gästrin to his three-year entry-level contract, the team announced on Thursday.

Gästrin’s contract will carry an average annual value of $877,500 at the NHL level and $85,000 in AHL. He is expected to be loaned to MoDo and play in the SHL for the 2025-26 season.

The 18-year-old Swede went 37th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft. As the No. 3 ranked international skater by NHL Central Scouting, he was expected to go earlier, but Washington was thrilled and didn’t hesitate when he dropped down.

Gästrin is known for his two-way play, skating ability and hockey IQ that makes him an asset in all three zones. He can also do a lot of damage around the net and is a talented playmaker and mature player.

“I’m a 200-foot player who loves to compete and can work really hard and got good skating and good vision and good passing ability as well. That’s a simple way of describing it,” Gästrin said.
