A former Bruins rental is heading to the West Coast.
Defenseman Dmitry Orlov has signed a two-year, $13 million deal ($6.5 million AAV) with the San Jose Sharks. The 33-year-old Russian had spent the past two seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Orlov spent the first 11 years of his career with the Washington Capitals before being dealt to the Bruins in a blockbuster at the 2023 trade deadline.
Boston acquired Orlov and Garnet Hathaway from Washington. They sent Craig Smith, a first-round pick, a second-round pick and a third-round pick to the Capitals, as well as fifth-round pick to Minnesota, who ate 25% of Orlov’s salary. The Bruins also got the rights to Andrei Svetlakov, who never left the KHL, from the Wild.
As the Bruins chased down the best regular season of all time, Orlov played exceptionally well, scoring four goals and adding 13 assists in 23 games.
However, when the playoffs rolled around, Boston was still upset by the Florida Panthers in a first round stunner. In that series, Orlov registered eight assists in seven games.

He departed as a free agent in the summer of 2023.
