ARLINGTON, Va (DC News Now) – The Washington Capitals advance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs after defeating the Montreal Canadians in five games. They now take on the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday to start their second-round journey, though many thought that Game 1 would take place sooner.
“I think there’s pros and cons,” said head coach Spencer Carbery. “Tuesday’s a little bit of a lengthy break… but I also think that you can use it to you’re advantage.”

Center Dylan Strome said the team was preparing to play on Sunday but still says that they will be ready on Tuesday. The Caps will have a tough opponent — the Hurricanes finished second in the Metropolitan Division, right behind Washington.
The head to head record is also close, with a split 2-2 regular season series. The latest game between the two teams was an 5-4 shootout victory for the Capitals at home. Washington is expecting a hard-fought series against the Hurricanes.
“We’re gonna have to dictate the play and worry about our game,” said Capitals right wing Tom Wilson. “Make sure that we’re focused and dialed in, because there’s not gonna be a lot of time and space out there.”
“We played them four times. We know what went on,” said Carbery “I think there’s bits and pieces from each game that we’ll take and look at — good and bad.”
