As reported by journalist Anthony Marcotte of BPM Sports, one of the signings announced yesterday by the Laval Rocket seems to give us another answer.
The Signing of Josh Jacobs Likely Marks the End of Tyler Wotherspoon Within the Montreal Canadiens Organization
We’ll be watching for a likely confirmation soon, but don’t expect to see him back next fall.

He may be looking for one last chance in the NHL. It won’t be with the Canadiens.

Joshua Jacobs, 29 years old, is a right-shot defenseman standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 223 pounds. He was selected 41st overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2014 draft, nearly a first-round pick. He has three games of NHL experience.
Tyler Wotherspoon, 32 years old, is a left-shot defenseman, also 6-foot-2 and 222 pounds. He was a second-round pick as well, selected 57th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2011.
In 2024-25 with the Laval Rocket, he tallied 18 points in 72 games, including two goals, and posted an impressive +19 rating.
He also had a strong playoff run and was a reliable veteran presence in the Laval locker room.
