Top NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has shared a significant update on the Maple Leafs, suggesting that there are multiple moves in their immediate future.

It’s no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs have had a rather underwhelming off-season to date. Outside of being able to extend John Tavares and Matthew Knies long-term, the Leafs only acquisition post-July 1st is enforcer Michael Pezzetta. The top NHL insider mentioned that one of the reasons why the Maple Leafs weren’t able to land forward Andrew Mangiapane in free agency was because they had to move a few players out, like Calle Jarnkrok or David Kampf — and the Bolton, Ontario native didn’t want to wait.Mangiapane ultimately signed with the Edmonton Oilers, hanging the Leafs out to dry. However, Friedman did add that forward Jack Roslovic is currently waiting, giving Treliving the opportunity to find a way to move someone out to bring him into the fold. The 28-year-old is a former first round pick of the Winnipeg Jets from the 2015 draft, who just recently potted 22 goals and 39 points in 81 games for Carolina this season. He also has some experience playing in the top six and a history with Auston Matthews from their days together at the US National Development Team.

Over his career, Roslovic has totalled 102 goals and 260 points in 526 games across 9 seasons with 4 different clubs. The right-hand shooting centre would be a complimentary piece for the Leafs as he can play up and down the lineup and provide added depth at centre or on the wing.

His willingness to wait is also a benefit for the Maple Leafs, because trading the likes of Jarnkrok and Kampf is probably not the easiest task, even if their cap hits are relatively low, compared to some of the other cap dumps we’ve seen recently.

Nevertheless, Treliving seemingly has a plan in sight that he’s looking to execute. Expect the Maple Leafs to remain aggressive with some of the options that still remain in free agency, like Roslovic. However, it hinges on their ability to move a player or two off the roster.
