ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals made another move to bolster their scoring depth within the organization, inking winger Sheldon Rempal to a one-year, two-way contract.

Rempal’s deal will pay $775,000 at the NHL level and $450,000 at the AHL level.

The 29-year-old played in the KHL this past season with Salavat Yulaev Ufa, where he picked up 31 goals and 30 assists for 61 points in 68 games, ranking second on the team in goals and points. He also had 13 assists in 19 playoff games, the most in the KHL, to help Ufa reach the Gangarin Cup Semifinals.

The last time he played in the NHL was 2023-24, when he had three points in nine games with the Vegas Golden Knights while also adding 45 points in 63 games with their AHL affiliate Henderson Silver Knights. He also has a history with the Capitals organization, having attended the team’s development camp in 2017.

Rempal is a hard-working winger who has a good shot and playmaking ability, and he’s able to produce and provide solid secondary scoring to any organization. He’s known for his high energy and strong play in the offensive zone, and he can consistently produce at the lower levels. The question is whether or not he can maintain that production if he makes the NHL jump.

All in all, a solid pickup for Washington, who is looking at internal options when it comes to filling some vacancies up front. He’ll face some heavy competition in training camp, though, and appears more than likely to slot in and provide depth for the AHL’s Hershey Bears, who lost Pierrick Dubé up front and could stand to lose Ivan Miroshnichenko, Hendrix Lapierre, and Ethen Frank, among others, to the Capitals this coming season.
