After 19 seasons as ESPN Radio’s pre- and post-game show host and backup play-by-play announcer for the NHL’s New York Rangers, Don La Greca is headed to MSG Networks, replacing Bill Spaulding as the broadcast voice of the rival New Jersey Devils, calling the plays alongside Ken Daneyko.
“To be the voice of the team that got me into hockey as a kid, a team that represents my home state with an incredible fan base, and to follow in the footsteps of some of the great play-by-play voices in the sport is an absolute dream come true,” La Greca says.
While moving from radio to TV game coverage, La Greca plans to continue hosting “Don, Hahn & Rosenberg” with Alan Hahn and Peter Rosenberg afternoons on ESPN Radio, continuing his 24-year run at the station, pending negotiation of a new deal later this year.
La Greca, who was with ESPN Radio when it launched in 2001, has hosted its “Jets Game Day” pre-game and “The 5th Quarter” post-game shows, and was co-host of “The Michael Kay Show” before joining “Don, Hahn & Rosenberg” in January 2025. He also currently hosts ESPN’s “Game Misconduct” hockey podcast.
For La Greca, who, as a Devils fan club member in 1989, got to have dinner with then-play-by-play voice Gary Thorne, it’s a classic example of what goes around comes around. “You get to know the players and the coaches and travel with them, so that becomes your family,” La Greca tells the New York Post. “But to now be able to do that with the Devils, with the team my heart was with, is just gonna be amazing… that’s what makes this so much of a dream.”
As to how he plans to handle a full season of calling games in the MSG booth, La Greca says, “A true great broadcast is making sure that everybody gets to contribute. That’s how I think I’ll be ultimately judged. I want to make sure everybody gets to shine on this broadcast. That’ll be the challenge for me.”
