The Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday acquired defenseman Matt Dumba and a 2028 second-round draft pick from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok.
Dumba, 30, a right-handed shot and a veteran who has played for four NHL teams, has 84 goals, 258 points in career 737 games. He brings a physical presence to the Penguins’ blue line.
He was originally selected in the first round, seventh overall, by the Minnesota Wild in the 2012 draft.
Last season with the Stars, Dumba had a goal, 10 points, 60 penalty minutes and 60 blocked shots in 63 games. However, he did not crack their lineup during the playoffs.
Dumba, 6 feet 1 and 185 pounds, has one year left on a contract with an AAV of $3.75 million, making the move advantageous for Dallas in terms of clearing cap space.
Penguins president of hockey operations/general manager Kyle Dubas also continued to stockpile future draft picks in this trade.
Kolyachonok played in 12 games with the Penguins last season, with two assists, after being picked up off waivers from the Utah Mammoth.
