LOS ANGELES, Calif. (WNEM) – One of the most highly touted prospects of the 2025 NHL Draft, Saginaw Spirit Captain Michael Misa, has been drafted second overall by the San Jose Sharks.
The Saginaw Spirit center has been viewed as an elite prospect with a remarkable 2024-25 season for the Ontario Hockey League. He was projected to be among the first picks in this year’s NHL Draft happening in Los Angeles.
Zayne Parekh broke the Spirit record last year by being drafted ninth overall. As of Friday night, Misa has become the highest drafted Saginaw player ever.
Misa tallied a franchise record 134 points on 62 goals and 72 assists.
We caught up with Misa before the draft and he said he’s beyond ready to hear his name called, “Definitely a lot of excitement,” Misa said. “You know, being here with my family and friends, and cousins are going to be here, so yeah, that’s what it’s all about. You want to hear your name called just to celebrate. Obviously, I want to get drafted as high as I can, but it’s up to the teams to decide what they’re looking for and ultimately whoever does draft me, I’m going to be super grateful.“
Sports Director Mark Pearson will have a complete overview of the draft and Misa’s reaction on WNEM TV5 News at 11 Friday night.
