At the most recent NHL Draft, Kent Hughes made a trade to move up into the second round in order to get his hands on young talent Alexander Zharovsky.”On Saturday morning, however, Zharovsky was still available.

The Canadiens were determined to get him, and Bobrov knew he wouldn’t still be on the board if he let the Nashville Predators speak at 35th overall.”

A Demidov-style arrangement from his KHL team? They’re already willing to let him leave earlier than expected-before his contract ends

It’s still fresh in our minds: Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens worked hard last spring to bring Ivan Demidov back to North America.

To everyone’s surprise, it worked-and the 5th overall pick of the 2024 Draft ended up playing no fewer than seven games with the team at the end of the season and in the playoffs.

Now, it appears the same scenario could play out with Alexander Zharovsky.

According to a report by Marco D’Amico on RG.com, following a conversation with Viktor Kozlov, Zharovsky’s coach with Salavat Yulaev Ufa, the hope is that Zharovsky will leave at the end of the season to join the Canadiens.

It’s clear this situation will be much easier for Kent Hughes and company to manage, as the door is already open.

But as Charles-Alexis Brisebois from DLC points out, it smells like a team that wants a “sweetener.”

Indeed, Zharovsky still has two years remaining on his KHL contract, and his club will surely want a little extra in return for letting him go early.
