ST. CLOUD — The week of June 24-July 1, there was a flurry of activity for current and former St. Cloud State men’s and women’s hockey players.

On June 24,

three St. Cloud State women’s players were selected in the PWHL Draft

that was held in Ottawa.

Forward Emma Gentry, who played for the Huskies from 2020-25,

became SCSU’s highest draft pick when she was selected with the 11th overall pick by the Toronto Sceptres.

For

the Huskies

, Gentry scored the most career game-winning goals (14), is second in career games (152), second in career goals (59), second in career shots (585) and eighth in career points (59-31-90). Gentry served as an alternate captain in 2023-24 and a co-captain in 2024-25.

Defenseman Dayle Ross, who played for the Huskies from 2021-25,

was taken with the first pick of the fourth round (25th overall) by the New York Sirens.

As a senior, Ross had the best season of her college career. She had 13 assists, 15 points, a career-best 103 shots, 46 blocked shots and led

the Huskies

in plus/minus with a career-best plus-11.

Ross has earned her degree in exercise science and was a two-time WCHA All-Academic Team pick. In her career, she had 33 assists, 40 points, 252 shots, 92 penalty minutes, was a plus-6 and had 269 blocked shots in 142 games.

In 2022-23, Ross set an NCAA record with 104 blocked shots.

Goalie Sanni Ahola, who played for the Huskies from 2020-25,

was taken was selected by the Ottawa Charge in the fifth round with the 37th overall pick. She was the third goalie taken in the draft and was Ottawa’s fifth pick.

The Helsinki, Finland, native was named the WCHA Goaltender of the Year and a First Team All-WCHA pick in 2023-24 and a Third Team All-WCHA selection in 2024-25.

Ahola graduated as the program leader in career wins (35), career shutouts (10) and season shutouts (5, tie, 2023-24). She also is second in season goals-against average (1.72, 2023-24), second in season save percentage (.935, tie, 2023-24), fourth in career goals-against average (2.62), fifth in career saves (2,340), fifth in career save percentage (.917) and fifth in season goals-against average (2.22, 2024-25).

On June 28, St. Cloud State men’s recruit Nolan Roed was selected in the seventh round of the NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.

In Roed’s first full season in the USHL with the Tri-City Storm, Roed was seventh in the league in points (60), tied for eighth in goals (27), tied for 15th in assists (33), led in short-handed goals (7), had three game-winning goals and 26 penalty minutes in 61 games played.

On the power play, he had four goals and eight assists.

July 1 was the first day for free agent signings in the NHL and there were four former Huskies who signed deals.

Defenseman Nick Perbix signed a two-year contract with an average annual value of $2.75 million with the Nashville Predators.

Perbix, 27, spent three seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning where he had 50 assists and 63 points in 220 regular season games. Last season, Perbix had six goals, 19 points, 20 penalty minutes, 67 blocked shots, 66 shots on goal and averaged 14 minutes, 41 seconds in 74 games.

Selected 169th overall in the sixth round of the 2017 NHL Draft, Perbix played for St. Cloud State from 2018-22.

The Colorado Avalanche signed defenseman Jack Ahcan to a one-year contract.

Ahcan, 28, recorded 41 points (five goals, 36 assists) in 69 games with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles during the 2024-25 season, setting career highs in both points and assists. He ranked first in assists and second in scoring among team defenseman and finished sixth in points on the club overall.

The Savage native has played in 272 career regular-season AHL games with the Eagles and Providence Bruins (2020-25), collecting 148 points (23 goals, 125 assists).

Ahcan has skated in 11 career NHL games with the Bruins and Avalanche with one goal. Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-9, 181-pound defenseman played four seasons for St. Cloud State (2016-20) with 103 points (21 goals, 82 assists) in 144 NCAA games.

Former St. Cloud State forward Mikey Eyssimont signed a a two-year contract with an annual cap hit of $1.45 million with the Boston Bruins.

Eyssimont, 28, appeared in 77 games with Seattle and Tampa Bay during the 2024-25 season, recording nine goals and seven assists for 16 points. The 6-foot, 191-pound forward has 25 goals and 56 in 213 career NHL games with Seattle, Tampa Bay, San Jose and Winnipeg. The Littleton, Colorado, native was originally selected by Los Angeles in the fifth round (142nd overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Eyssimont played for the Huskies from 2015-18 and is tied for 36th on the school’s career point list (102 in 115 games), tied for 33rd in career goals (45) and tied for 41st in career assists (57).

The Vancouver Canucks signed defenseman Jimmy Schuldt to a two-year, two-way contract.

Schuldt, 30, appeared in eight games for the San Jose Sharks in 2024-25, recording four shots on goal and averaging 13:47 of time on ice.

The 6-foot-1, 203-pound Schuldt has played in nine career NHL games, split between the Vegas Golden Knights and Sharks, registering one assist, five shots on goal, and averaging 14:35 of time on ice.

Schuldt played for St. Cloud State from 2015-19. He is the program’s career leader in goals by a defenseman (38) and points by a defenseman (118). He is also tied for second in career assists by a defenseman (80) and played in a school-record 156 straight games.

Among all SCSU players, he is tied for 12th in career assists, 23rd in points and tied for 11th in career games.

He is one of the school’s most honored players. In 2019, he was a top three finalist for the Hobey Baker Award after having 10 goals, 35 points and was a plus-24 in 39 games. In 2018, he was a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker after having 10 goals, 38 points and was a plus-19 in 40 games.

Ethan-Prow-2018-19

Former St. Cloud State defenseman Ethan Prow was named to the 2018-19 AHL Second All-Star Team after leading the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in points (50). Prow is a former NCHC Player of the Year.

On June 30,

former St. Cloud State defenseman Ethan Prow

signed a signed a one-year contract with Grizzlys Wolfsburg in the German DEL.

Prow, a 32-year-old from Sauk Rapids,

played the last four seasons with the AHL’s Rochester Americans. Last season, he had one goal, seven points, eight penalty minutes and was a minus-7 in 22 games with the Americans.

Prow played for the Huskies from 2012-16, serving as the team captain as a senior. As a senior, Prow was named the NCHC’s Player of the Year, Offensive Defenseman of the Year and Defensive Defenseman of the Year when he had eight goals, 38 points, two penalty minutes and was a plus-29 in 37 games. His 30 assists that season tied an SCSU single-season record for defensmen.

In SCSU’s career records for defensemen, Prow is tied for second in assists (80) and is fourth in points (99).
