The word of the day is trade. Russian agent Shumi Babaev, who has taken Evgeny Kuznetsov’s negotiations (or lack thereof) public, once again took to X to make Columbus Blue Jackets young winger Yegor Chinakhov’s complaints and trade request public. The Toronto Maple Leafs went “big” on the trade market and acquired Joshua Jagger from Vancouver. We did the legwork to figure out the realistic Pittsburgh Penguins trade asks for Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust. And Sportsnet had a little fun by looking at the biggest summer trades of the last 10 years, including Mr. Erik Karlsson.

I told you, trade is the word of the day.

Sorry, I don’t have any screaming chairs or potted flowers.

Some of you who are more into nature and such, are wasps out in force this summer? I was stung on Sunday on my way home, so my neck was swollen and finally began to go down Wednesday (I put a little TV makeup on the welt for the Live Chat), but one little (expletive deleted) got me twice yesterday, on the cheek and the bottom lip.

Now I look like a Kardashian, minus pilfering billions from naive fans on overpriced sponsored products, of course. I’m glad I won’t be doing TV this weekend…

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The question has been asked and answered with some casualness. So, we got serious about the question with trade history and market values. We did the real calculations of what Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell are worth in a Penguins trade.

Steelers Now: Say hello to T.J. Watt, he’ll be sticking around for three more years, and he got a historic contract from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: The Penguins aren’t the only ones chumming the trade waters. Your Buccos are also sellers, though they have much less to sell. The first player on the way out was Adam Frazier. Here’s the Pirates trade.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

TSN: First, the agent went public on X. Chinakhov wants out of Columbus. Later in the day, Columbus GM Don Wadell responded with a bit of candor.

SDPN: Oh boy. There’s nothing more that I can say. Nothing more that I can report. Nothing more my colleagues can report. However, the talk persists. Steve Dangle and Chris Johnston got into both Connor McDavid’s possible free agency and … trading Sidney Crosby. Yep, they went there, and you can check it out on YouTube.

I think the line that I took some issue with was that no one knows his intentions. We’ve all tried to report them. Just because someone brings it up doesn’t mean he has to keep responding.

The Canucks Way: Dakota Joshua was the toast of the playoffs a couple of years ago. His power forward ways set Vancouver abuzz. But his performances haven’t been the same in the regular season, and Vancouver traded him to Toronto for a pittance. Here’s the reaction from Vancouver.

Sportsnet: The best summer trades over the last decade include some doozies. If you need to get your trade fix while waiting for the Penguins to make a move, here you go.

New Jersey Hockey Now: What to do with a young goalie? With the teams licking the inside of the empty Jif jar, hoping to find a little something, what should the New Jersey Devils do with netminder Nico Daws?

Montreal Hockey Now: On Sept. 1, Carey Price gets paid most of his upcoming salary, at which point everyone expects the Canadiens to trade his contract. There are a couple of teams that don’t mind getting paid to take on contracts, eh? Here’s the Canadiens’ trade scenario.

Vegas Hockey Now: Our friends in Las Vegas have been busy, but now they’re all full at the inn. Is the Golden Knights lineup set in stone?
