New Report Details How the Vancouver Canucks Plan to Use Their Remaining Cap Space

An NHL insider opened up recently on how the Vancouver Canucks will likely allocate their remaining cap space ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Last week, the Vancouver Canucks were able to clear some cap space by trading forward Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs, opening up $3.25 million to work with in the lead up to training camp in mid-September.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin and the team’s management group want to use that cap space wisely and bring in someone they believe will have a significant impact on their roster throughout the 2025-26 campaign as they hope to achieve their goal of returning to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
NHL insider reveals how Vancouver Canucks will likely allocate remaining cap space
As things stand today, July 24th, the Vancouver Canucks have $3.27 million in cap space, according to PuckPedia, and it seems more likely than not that the club will make at least one addition to their roster before camp, likely another forward.
During a recent appearance on Sekeres and Price, NHL insider John Shannon shared that Vancouver Canucks should probably allocate that remaining cap space towards a centerman this summer.
“It has to be at center ice. You know, we had Patrik Allvin on our show and he talked about, yes, Chytil can play second line center, but if it was an opportune situation to get another centerman and have Chytil as the number three, this would make this team that much better and would be a really good complementary guy to have and three solid centers to start the season.” Shannon said.
Even though the free agent market is quite thin, Vancouver’s pursuit of more depth down the middle hasn’t slowed down, with reports suggesting that the club is continuing to talk with UFA centerman Jack Roslovic, who is coming off a solid season with the Carolina Hurricanes, tying a career-high in goals (22).
With less than two months to go until training camp and preseason, the Vancouver Canucks are hoping that they’ll be able to find some center help sooner rather than later.
