The lottery balls have officially been drawn and the New York Islanders will select No. 1 overall at the 2025 NHL Draft.
Monday night’s NHL Draft Lottery held no shortage of drama, as for the first time ever, the lottery balls were drawn live on TV instead of being pulled off camera earlier in the day. As such, the moment held incredible tension before the lottery balls were drawn and the Islanders were declared the winners.
With the No. 1 overall pick, the Islanders will likely select defenseman Matthew Schaefer of the Erie Otters out of the Ontario Hockey League. Schaefer is billed as a stellar two-way defender and has the potential to be an all-important anchor as a No. 1 defenseman. Quite a get for winning the lottery, wouldn’t you say?
