Chicago Blackhawks vs. Winnipeg Jets Preview
During the Blackhawks’ win against the Boston Bruins, Kevin Korchinski scored his first goal in 15 games. Not just his first goal, his first point. It’s no surprise that Korchinski still needs time to develop, and that’s okay. There was something special about his goal. Oliver Moore and Connor Bedard both set up the play to give Korchinski a beauty of goal.

Ethan Del Mastro was sent down to Rockford on April 11, probably in anticipation of either Connor Murphy or Alec Martinez returning to the lineup. The IceHogs do need some help as they get ready for their playoff run. But when you keep Korchinski in the lineup, you would think that’s because he might benefit from more NHL time before he eventually joins the IceHogs, right?

As the games wind down and the organization preaches the “youth movement” and development, we get Korchinski getting scratched in favor of veteran players. That middle pairing is two veteran players, and one of them is taking up a spot that can be used for development. The NHL (and the AHL, believe it or not) is not a development league. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of opportunities to teach young players a thing or two. Especially if you think they have a future spot on this team. Because that play that I shared above is going to teach Korchinski a lot more than watching from the press box.
The Jets are the best team in the NHL right now, at least, according to the standings. The first round in the playoffs will be the litmus test for Winnipeg. They are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games and are on a two-game winning streak. Their last two games were potential sneak-peaks into the playoffs as they ended the St. Louis Blues’ 12-game winning streak (longest in franchise history) and the Dallas Stars (despite their recent struggles, they are still dangerous).
The Blackhawks have the potential to embarrass themselves in their last home game or catch the Jets taking the night off in preparation for the playoffs.
