We’re just over two months away from opening night at the SAP Center, as we’re just 65 days away from the San Jose Sharks facing off against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Most recently, and most famously, the number 65 was worn by defenseman Erik Karlsson. Karlsson played for the Sharks from 2019 to 2023. His most memorable season in teal was undoubtedly his final one.

During the 2022-23 season, Karlsson finished with an impressive 25 goals and 76 assists through 82 games. At the end of the season, he was awarded the Norris Trophy for the third time in his career, and the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Karlsson was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins ahead of the 2023-24 season, and that’s where he remains today.

Before Karlsson came to town, the number was worn by Danny O’Regan from 2017 to 2018 and Derek Joslin from 2009 to 2011. O’Regan played a total of 22 games for the Sharks, recording five points in the process. Meanwhile, Joslin played 53 games, recording seven points.

Karlsson’s story could continue to develop as he’s constantly in trade rumors, but as for his time in San Jose, it’s safe to say he was a bright spot through a difficult period for the team.
