The Pittsburgh Penguins are in a strange spot as the NHL offseason continues. Pittsburgh is not seen as a contender for the Stanley Cup, and it seems that the team wants to enter a rebuild.

But with a few veteran players left on the roster, things are complicated for the front office. Star Sidney Crosby still has a desire to win at the highest level, making things difficult for the team.
This has caused trade rumors to break out around the star, and the idea of Pittsburgh moving Crosby has come about. However, at least to this point, no trade has come close to going down.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman provided an update on the rumors around Crosby as the calendar has now shifted to August. According to Friedman, it doesn’t seem that the Penguins’ star will be moved this offseason.

Even if Crosby isn’t traded this summer, the idea of the team moving him could linger into the season. If Pittsburgh starts off slow again, Crosby could consider asking out before it gets too late.
Crosby likely only has a few seasons left to play, and he wants to make the most of them. While he would probably prefer to stay with the Penguins for the entirety of his legendary career, everything remains fluid between the two sides.
The veteran is still very productive as he scored 33 goals and 58 assists last season for the Penguins. Crosby is only under contract with Pittsburgh for two more seasons, which could make things easier in a potential trade down the line.
