JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) – Some kids in Jackson got a big surprise on Saturday when Jackson native and Detroit Red Wings forward Carter Mazur showed up to coach their 3-on-3 hockey team.
Mazur is working hard to make the Detroit Red Wings roster this fall but still found time to give back to his hometown.
“It’s easy to give back to this community. They’ve done a lot for me, so it’s pretty easy to get out here and help the little kids,” Mazur said. “I would say it starts at my grandpa. My grandpa’s a big guy with the community. Loves Kiwanis [Club of Jackson]. My dad as well gives back to the community. So, I feel like that’s just something ingrained in me to do, and hockey’s the sport I play, so it’s pretty easy to give back to people in hockey and just be there for them.”
Mazur says he’s all healed up after suffering a season-ending injury in his NHL debut last spring and is ready to go for Red Wings training camp beginning in September.
