Vegas Golden Knights, Smiths host back-to-school gas event
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — On Sunday morning, the Las Vegas Golden Knights teamed up with the Skye Canyon Smiths to help families in the Northwest valley just in time for back-to-school.
Nearly 400 families got a free tank of gas. It’s the Vegas Golden Knights’ way of saying “thank you” to the community that shows up for them year-round.
“People started lining up about six in the morning. About 7:30 in the morning, the line had gone all the way down, down the road, around the corner,” said Christopher Parry. “We’re big VGK fans anyway, so the fact that they do this for the community just seems so much.”
For some, the generosity came just in time.
“I was so close to empty, and it was just a rough week,” Linzi Kramp said.
Parents say that with back-to-school costs adding up, every little bit helps.
“I’m going school shopping later today with my daughter so that’s $50 I can use on something else, so that’s perfect,” Kramp said.
Each car received about $50 in gas.
“Now’s a very hectic time for parents,” Smith’s District Manager David Weiss said. “Now’s the perfect time to give back. They’re school shopping for clothes, pens, pencils, backpacks, so a full tank of gas just helps them further what they need to do.”
For those who missed the free gas event, the Smith’s Skye Canyon location is offering 20 cents off per gallon now through Tuesday, Aug. 12.
