The TVA Sports network has just reported major news about David Savard and the Montreal Canadiens.
This is exactly what we were hoping for!
We recently spoke about the possibility of seeing Savard eventually hired by the Tricolore, a bit like Paul Byron last year, and now it seems to be taking shape!
David Savard is in talks with the Montreal Canadiens for a new role
An article by Stéphane Cadorette:
“David Savard has not hidden his interest in staying within the Canadiens’ fold.
After being pressed for answers, the former defenseman indicated that he was in discussions to that effect with the organization, about a month before training camp.” – TVA Sports
“We’ve had discussions, but it’s still in talks, if I can say. We’re continuing to speak with Kent [Hughes] and Gort [Jeff Gorton], just to see if there’s a possibility.”
“There’s nothing urgent because I’ll be in Montreal anyway when the season starts. We’ll see if they need me. We also have to see if it can work with the family schedule. My family has followed me through the years, and now the priorities are going to change.” – David Savard
He knows the young players very well, he knows exactly what Martin St-Louis wants, he has a lot of experience, so he’s truly an ideal candidate for the Habs.
Savard, 34, recorded 15 points in 75 games last season, with 36 penalty minutes and a minus-8 rating.
In his NHL career, Savard has tallied 242 points in 870 games (including 54 goals) with 467 penalty minutes.
