The San Jose Sharks have two retired numbers in their franchise. Joe Pavelski’s iconic No. 8 could be the third.

There hasn’t been any official word about a potential banner raising at the SAP Center this season. Former Sharks forward John Scott might’ve accidentally revealed that there will be on his Dropping the Gloves podcast.

In an interview with Sharks forward William Eklund, Scott asked the winger a question about the upcoming 25-26 season.

“So what happens this year? When I come to San Jose, which I will, cause I think Pavs is getting his jersey retired, so I’ll be there,” Scott said. “What are the expectations this year?”

There hasn’t been any announcement from Pavelski or the San Jose Sharks regarding a potential jersey retirement. Scott attended and played in Joe Thornton’s jersey retirement Alumni game last season. The former NHL All-Star said he expects to be invited to the rumored Pavelski event.

Pavelski wasn’t asked about being the next Sharks player to have his name in the rafters during Thornton’s legends game.

Pavelski is likely to remain retired despite conversations with teams last season

The former Sharks captain just endured his first year of retirement, and in November, said he spoke with the Sharks briefly about potentially returning.

“I like the game. We talked. Dallas. There’s been a few teams that call and always offer something,” Pavelski said. “These first few years, it’s going to be all about family and being around and taking a step back a little bit. If there’s conversations to be had, then they’ll happen, but no strings attached right now.”

Pavelski recently won a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe in July.

As it stands, it is just a rumor that Pavelski’s No. 8 will be retired. If the former Sharks forward is getting his jersey put in the rafters, expect more news to come before the season.
