New York Rangers Announce New Goalie Signing

The New York Rangers organization announced that they’ve signed the goaltender Talyn Boyko to a contract.With the 2025-26 season right around the corner, the pressure is on for this team to deliver following a disappointing 2024-25 season, and having a steady goalie situation will be one of the biggest keys.This could very well be Jonathan Quick‘s last ride in the NHL, and while his experience and leadership are invaluable, the Rangers know they can’t lean too heavily on a 39-year-old to get through an 82-game grind.Igor Shesterkin is still the star and backbone of this team, but if he faces any bumps in the road, the Rangers can’t afford to slip in the standings. Chris Drury clearly understands that, which is why adding another option in net made so much sense.
Rangers Add Depth To Goalie Unit With New Signing
The 22-year-old impressed last year with the Tulsa Oilers in the ECHL, posting a 20-8-5 record with a .913 save percentage.
He even made his AHL debut with Hartford on New Year’s Eve and stole the show with a 32-save shutout. At 6-foot-7, Boyko is a massive presence in goal, and his development over the past year has been hard to ignore.
In two seasons split between Tulsa and Cincinnati in the ECHL, Boyko has shown he can carry the workload, and the Rangers will be watching closely to see how he continues to progress. For a fourth-round pick back in 2021, he’s quietly turning into a strong depth option.
If Shesterkin or Quick needs rest, or worse, time off due to injury, the team can’t afford chaos in the crease.
Although he’ll likely spend most of his time in the AHL, having Boyko around relieves some of that pressure and gives New York a little more security heading into a crucial season.
