ST. CLOUD — St. Cloud Cathedral High School graduate Nate Schmidt will bring the Stanley Cup to St. Cloud on Monday, Aug. 25.
Schmidt and the trophy will be at Municipal Athletic Complex from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The trophy will be available to the public for photos at about noon.

Schmidt played in the St. Cloud Youth Hockey Association before playing for
from 2006-09. He helped the Crusaders reach the Class A state tournament in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, he was an AP All-State second-team selection, and he helped the Crusaders to back-to-back fourth-place finishes at the state tournament.
His senior year, he played for the Fargo Force, was named to the USHL’s All-Rookie Team, played in the All-Star Game and helped the Force reach the Clark Cup Finals.
From 2010-13, Schmidt played for the
. With the Gophers, he was a two-time WCHA Academic Team selection, was named to the All-WCHA Second Team in 2012 and was named to the All-WCHA First Team and the AHCA All-America West Second Team.
Schmidt signed with the Washington Capitals organization at the end of his junior season and finished with the AHL’s Hershey Bears in 2013.
From 2013-15, he split time between the Bears and the Capitals. He played his first full NHL season in 2015-16. In 2017, he was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the expansion draft.
In 2018, Schmidt helped Vegas reach the Stanley Cup Finals, where the Knights lost to the Capitals. He also helped the Knights reach the Western Conference Finals.
Schmidt was traded to Vancouver before the 2020-21 season and played one season for the Canucks before being traded to the Winnipeg Jets. He played for the Jets from 2021-24 before signing for $800,000 with Florida last summer.

During the 2024-25 regular season, Schmidt had five goals, 19 points, 30 penalty minutes and was a plus-4 in 80 games. In 23 playoff games, he had three goals, 12 points, four penalty minutes and was a plus-9.
Schmidt has 52 goals, 239 points, 152 penalty minutes and is a plus-106 in 741 regular-season NHL games. In 99 career NHL playoff games, he has 10 goals, 40 points, 20 penalty minutes and is a plus-14.
In the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals, Schmidt had five assists, 26 shots on goal, was a plus-3 and averaged about 18 minutes of ice time.
Schmidt signed a three-year, $10.5 million contract with the Utah Mammoth on Tuesday, July 1.
The contract has an average annual value of $3.5 million, according to NHL.com.
