Hockey Manitoba – the provincial governing body of hockey within the middle province – announced on Thursday that longtime executive director, Peter Woods, has been relieved of his duties.

More accurately, the organizational release did not even include their veteran executive’s name, rather just listing his title.

“Hockey Manitoba announces that the employment of our Executive Director has been terminated effective August 15, 2025. We wish him the best in his future endeavours,” Hockey Manitoba stated in its release.

Roughly 35,000 Manitobans operated under the Hockey Manitoba umbrella each season through a variety of occupation: players, referees, timekeepers, coaches, volunteers, etc. The program also assembles provincial teams annually at a variety of age levels.

Woods, who has been at the helm at Hockey Manitoba for nearly 25 years, took office in 2001.

There was no explanation given for his firing,

“Hockey Manitoba remains committed to serving our members and ensuring continuity during this transition. The Board of Directors will provide our membership with an update on the path forward in the coming week.”
