Young Blackhawks star Frank Nazar is fresh off a record-breaking contract, and he “pulled a Mitch Marner‘ by fitting his jersey numbers into his new deal.

The 21-year-old thrived during his first season, scoring 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) from 53 games. He’s in the last season of his entry-level contract, signing April 13, 2024, prior to the extension itself commencing.

The Blackhawks’ first-round pick from the 2022 draft, Frank Nazar, has tallied 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) in 56 career NHL games.Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews Both Tied Their Jersey Numbers Into Their Contracts

In a tongue-in-cheek manner, Nazar did what Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner did and put his own jersey number in the value of the contract.

Some fans and analysts have been jokingly calling it a “bad omen,” comparing the fact that since they’ve done the same, the playoffs haven’t been so great for the duo while they were teammates with the Leafs.

Interestingly, Marner no longer plays for the Maple Leafs, having been dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights in a sign-and-trade this offseason.

The Blackhawks begin their new season on Oct. 7 against the Panthers in Florida, and Nazar will be hoping to continue his stellar rookie season into this one and prove to the world that he’s worth every penny of his new contract.
