Technically Canada, Sweden and Finland could all earn the chance to face Team USA in the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off on Thursday at TD Garden in Boston.

The Americans earned their spot with Saturday’s 3-1 win over Canada.

Realistically their opponent will probably come down to the winner of Monday’s 1 p.m. game between Finland and Canada.

Canada, Finland and Sweden each have 2 points (teams get 3 points for a regulation win, 2 for an overtime/shootout win, 1 for an overtime/shootout loss) through two games, but Sweden’s points came from two overtime losses to Finland and Canada. So Sweden would lose the tiebreaker if they finish tied with either of those teams.

For Sweden to win, they need Canada and Finland to go to overtime in the afternoon game and they’d have to beat Team USA in regulation at 8 p.m.

If either Canada or Finland wins in regulation, the winner will clinch a spot in the final. If that game goes to overtime, the winner would still advance if either Team USA either wins on Monday night or loses to Sweden in overtime.
