I realize it’s only August, almost September, but we’re still in the final days of summer. But for college football fans, this is like Christmas week and the last day of school all rolled into one because college football is officially back.

Games actually started this past Saturday, but for the rest of the college football teams in America, this week is the kickoff of the season. The Minnesota Golden Gophers will kick off their season this Thursday night.

If you don’t have tickets, Gopher Athletics has the Cub Family Four Pack, which includes 4 tickets, 4 mix and match boxed candy, popcorn, or packaged snacks, 4 20oz. Soft drinks or bottles of water starting at only $32 each.

The Gophers will play host to the Buffalo Bulls at Hunting Bank Stadium at 7pm. Here are some things you need to know if you’re thinking about going to the game.

What You Need To Know Before You Go

First, this week is a Gold Out. This means that fans are encouraged to wear Gold to show their support for the team. The Athletic Department will be handing out Gold Rally towels to all the fans that are there.

The tailgate lots will be opened at 2pm for those who want to tailgate. For those who need to buy tickets, the ticket office opens at 4pm.

Also at 4, The Gopher Garden will open. This is located on Oak Street, in front of 3M Arena, at Mariucci. There will be music, beverages and fun giveaways as well.

At 4:15 it will be Ski-U-March, the team will march their way to the locker room. Fans are encouraged to cheer on the team by gathering around Gate C.

At 5:30, all the general gates will open for fans to make their way into the stadium. Make sure you’re in your seat before 6:40, that’s the time the Pride of Minnesota Marching Band begins their pre-game performance.

Then Kickoff is at 7pm.

Remember if you’re going, leave yourself plenty of time to find your parking space and to get where you need to be, exercise some patience, and soak in all the sights and sounds of a college football environment.
