The Pittsburgh Penguins’ season opener will be one of 16 games in 2025-26 that are scheduled to be part of a national broadcast, according to a TV schedule announced Wednesday.
It was previously announced that their opener Oct. 7 against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden will be on ESPN. That will be one of five ESPN games, along with four on ABC, six on TNT and one that will be exclusive to ESPN+/Hulu.

The streaming-only game is Nov. 6 at home against Alex Ovechkin and the rival Washington Capitals. That is one of three Penguins-Capitals national broadcasts. The rival Philadelphia Flyers appear on the Penguins’ national broadcast schedule twice.
Locally, SportsNet Pittsburgh and SNP 360 kick off their coverage of games Oct. 9 against the New York Islanders at PPG Paints Arena.
The SportsNet Pittsburgh lineup of broadcasters was announced, and it no longer includes former Penguins forward Mike Rupp, who had been part of the rotation of TV color analysts. Josh Getzoff returns as TV play-by-play man, with former Penguins players Colby Armstrong and Phil Bourque sharing the TV analyst role. Dan Potash and Hailey Hunter will again share the rinkside reporting role.
