For a long time, the Colorado Avalanche has been Montana’s favorite professional hockey team, but Avalanche games are no longer the most televised in the state.

Hockey fans in Montana might have noticed a change over the past few years. Due to an ongoing media partnership between Scripps Sports and the Las Vegas Golden Knights, most of the VGK regular-season games are aired locally in Montana on MTN, a statewide Scripps-owned network.
A broadcast schedule for the 2025-26 regular season was just released by the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and it’s great news for Montana hockey fans.
The 2025-26 season will be the third of the Golden Knights’ partnership with Scripps Sports to televise non-nationally exclusive games for free over the air, on cable, or with a satellite subscription.
During the season, a total of 69 games will be aired on MTN, a station that you can watch simply by hooking up an antenna. In addition, 13 games will air exclusively on ESPN or TNT. The season opener against the LA Kings on October 8 will air on Turner Sports.

While the Avalanche still have a loyal following in Big Sky Country, the ease of tuning into Knights games on local television may signal a shift in Montana’s hockey landscape.
