One of the key players for the Detroit Red Wings defense moving forward is a player to be named later.
If you look at Detroit’s current defensemen, factor in prospects moving through the pipeline, and consider the team’s salary cap position, you can see the need for the team to trade for a veteran impact defenseman over the next 11 months.
As of today, Moritz Seider, 24, and Simon Edvinsson, 22, are the foundation blocks of the defense moving forward and the Red Wings hope they see Axel Sandin Pellikka, 20, being a significant contributor by next season. He will likely be on the roster at some point this season. Earlier this week, dailyfaceoff.com listed him No. 18 on the list of the NHL’s Top 75 affiliated prospects. The outlet said Sandin Pellikka’s defensive game is “solid”, and with his difference-making offensive skill, the young Swede is blossoming into a top four defenseman.
