WILKES-BARRE TWP. —  Mohegan Arena has canceled its Saturday hockey game between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Belleville Senators following issues with the venue’s ice.

The game will now be played 7:05 p.m. March  4.

Officials with the arena are trying to repair a pipe underneath the surface floor that is hampering ice making, arena General Manger Steven Poremba said Tuesday.

“If it passes the pressure test, we’ll be making ice next week,” he said.

The problem began when arena staff members began to notice unusual pressure readings on a gauge when monitoring the ice floor, arena Poremba said at last week’s meeting of the county convention center authority. That led to an inspection that determined the ice floor needed to be drained so investigators could determine the cause of the pressure issues.

Even though the arena’s ice floor was out of service, the Disney on Ice shows went on as planned last weekend. The popular entertainment attraction provided its own ice-making system.

Fans who purchased tickets for the game will have their tickets automatically rescheduled for March 4. However, these tickets can be adjusted to any other remaining home date in the 2024-25 regular season. All dates and seating are subject to availability.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s next scheduled home game is Jan. 25 against the Utica Comets.
