The most recent episode of the documentary on the Montreal Canadiens’ rebuild, available on Crave, is really interesting.
We’ve also learned about another trade that never materialized with the Predators!
The Canadiens were offered a trade involving a first-round pick and a player, in exchange for a big name in Montreal
Unfortunately, they don’t provide more details than that.
We know Kent Hughes was offered a player and a 1st-round pick in exchange for a “big name in Montreal.”
It could have been Mike Matheson, but it could also have been Arber Xhekaj!Let’s not forget that last year, serious rumors circulated that the Philadelphia Flyers had made such an offer to the Habs in exchange for Xhekaj.
Now, do those two names count as “big names” in Montreal? That’s the question I’m asking myself..
This is really intriguing!

One thing is certain: Kent Hughes ultimately refused this trade, and everything suggests that the Canadiens player who was targeted here is still with the organization.
In the end, the Habs’ general manager later completed two impactful trades: one to acquire Noah Dobson and another to acquire forward Zachary Bolduc.
Is a third one in the works?
